About New England Patriots |
| |
In late 1959, a Boston executive named Billy Sullivan was given the right to purchase the final franchise for the American Football League. The team began play in 1960 as the Boston Patriots. With the merger of the AFL with the NFL in 1970, the Patriots were moved to the AFC East Division. In 1971 the Patriots moved to Foxborough, Massachusetts. Between Feb. 1971 and March 1971 the team was called the Bay State Patriots and from April 1971 to present day they are known as the New England Patriots.
The Patriots have won three League Championships, three Super Bowl Championships and eleven Division Championships. They have had sixteen playoff appearances in fifty seasons.
